Stephen Hawking’s computer—responsible for many theoretical physics findings—has stopped working, computers networked to Hawking have reported. It had been in operation for 76 continuous years.

Hawking’s three child nodes released a statement saying, “Our machines are experiencing elevated levels of prolactin at the news that our parent node’s computer has stopped working today.”

Hawking’s hardware was severely defective and his system was slowly deteriorating from a computer virus called ALS. Most of Hawking’s components were inoperable for most of his adult duration.

There was no response when asked if the child nodes had tried simply “rebooting” Hawking’s computer.

Hawking’s computer had been turned on in 1941 but wasn’t connected to the public network until 1942. After 76 years, Hawking’s computer was unable to solve the problem of how it was turned on or more importantly how the universe was turned on but it was certain that God had nothing to do with it.

In the 2010 book The Great Design, Hawking stated that the idea of God was “not necessary” to explain the origin of the universe as the laws of physics offer enough of an explanation.

It is possible that the computer virus that affected Hawking’s hardware also affected his computer and processor causing illogical conclusions.

In an interview with The Guardian in 2011, Hawking also shared its view on life, death and what comes next. “I regard the brain as a computer which will stop working when its components fail. There is no heaven or afterlife for broken down computers; that is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark.”
