UPDATE: Multiple files from ‘secret archives’ alleging details of child abuse by priests were located by investigators at the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston on Wednesday (KHOU).

A raid is underway at the Catholic Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston in downtown Houston. The search warrant is connected to the Montgomery County investigation into Father Manuel La Rosa-Lopez, charged with four felony counts of indecency with a child.

It appears that this was unannounced and part of a comprehensive search the Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon says. He also stated, “If this goes up to the Vatican, then I’ll be going to Rome.”

The Conroe Police Department, Texas Rangers, Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, and other agencies executed a search warrant at 1700 San Jacinto. A spokesperson for the Archdiocese says they are cooperating with the search for documents connected to an ongoing investigation.

Two victims claimed that they reported LaRosa-Lopez to Houston-Galveston’s Archbisop Daniel Dinardo, who is the President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Dinardo recently chaired a meeting of the Bishops in Baltimore to address the sex abuse scandal plaguing the Church.

The archdiocese contends this was not a raid and that it is cooperating fully with anything and everything for which the authorities are looking.
