Violent BLM and anti-Israel protesters have been released without much fanfare but the federal government continues to persecute participants of the January 6 riot like they were the worst war criminals in the history of the world.
Nearly four years after the incident, the Harris-Biden government put Rebecca Lavrenz, the great-grandmother known as “J6 Praying Grandma,” in an ankle monitor for the next 6 months for her house arrest sentence. They also fined her over $100,000.
Lavrenz violated nobody’s rights. She did not participate in violence. She did not incite violence, nor did she steal or destroy any property. She walked around the halls of the Capitol building and prayed. And yet, the federal prosecutors thought she should be behind bars for 10 months. The judge gave her 12 months prohibition instead:
After a weeklong trial and four days of jury deliberations, I was convicted of four misdemeanor counts in the spring of 2024. On August 12th, 2024 I was sentenced in federal court in DC. While thankfully my attorneys were successful in convincing the federal magistrate judge to not incarcerate me (the government was seeking 10 months in federal prison), I was sentenced to 12 months of probation and a $103,000 fine. My attorneys have informed me this is the largest misdemeanor fine in American history. In addition, the judge ordered that the first 6 months would be home detention, during which time I would not be permitted to use the internet at all. That would prevent me from speaking my voice on social media, using Zoom to conduct media interviews, using e-mail, or even doing basic things like checking news sites or using my bank account online. My attorneys told me that such restrictions were usually reserved for extreme cases such as child pornography or human trafficking cases. I believe this is meant to punish me for speaking my voice to the American people as a Christian woman who loves the country and the Constitution as we head into the most important election of our lives. It will also limit my ability to raise funds for my appeal and to help pay the fine.
Rebecca Lavrenz, known as “J6 Praying Grandma” on social media, is also being forced to fork over $103,500 in fines after being convicted of four misdemeanor counts, the Colorado Sun reported.
In a Facebook post before the ruling, the 72-year-old great-grandmother, who operates a bed and breakfast northeast of Colorado Springs, offered no apologies for her crimes and said she felt the judge’s decision was in God’s hands.
“I am confident that his sentence will be what God, the Highest Judge, thinks is best to wake up our country,” Lavrenz wrote Monday morning. “Trusting and obeying God is my assignment for today.”
Lavrenz’s defense attorneys requested a one-year probation, no fine and no restitution, in court documents filed last week. They argued that she was a retired, first-time offender with “countless ties” to her community and commitments to her extended family.
Her attorneys said that Lavrenz’s conduct Jan. 6 was peaceful and nonviolent, that she caused no property damage and that she complied with the conditions of her release over the past two years after she was arrested in 2022, according to court documents.
St. Augustine said that “An unjust law is no law at all,” and we are getting precariously close to a lawless country in the United States with political persecution like this. God have mercy on us.
