An MSNBC guest host Heidi Przybyla expressed disdain for so-called “Christian nationalists” who rightly think that rights don’t come from Congress or the Supreme Court, but come from God:

This is a perfect encapsulation of what St. Augustine called the Earthly City, which is the society of men who are dedicated to themselves—atheistic and power-hungry. It is the Earthly City which drove all the bloody communist revolutions and this mentality is what caused the death of over 100 million people by the state in the 20th century.

Of course, the United States was founded on a document that expressly gave God His due: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
